As perfect pokemon's grass gym leader I have decided to post a guide on the grass monotype. Grass is a good type that is surprisingly easy to cover in a team.

003-m.png
Venusaur: Venusaur is an amazing pokemon this generation as it has recieved a mega evolution. This takes away it's chlorophyll ability but gives it the thick fat ability effectively getting rid of it's fire and ice weaknesses. It is also a very versatile pokemon with plenty of set options. Regular venusaur is amazing in the sun because of it's chlorophyll ability. Venusaurs typing gets rid of the bug weakness that grass types usually have as well so it's a very safe pokemon for a monograss team. Venusaur can also use grassy terrain for more recovery and some extra damage on it's grass attacks.

Vileplume:
Vileplume is an exceptional cleric with access to great support moves such as teeter dance, sleep powder, aromatherapy and grassy terrain. Vileplume is also versatile in that it can run a sweeping set with chlorophyll or wall either physical or special attacks. The recovery options on it are also great with moonlight, synthesis and gigadrain.
The typing allows it to take neutral damage on bug attacks which are a threat to monograss teams.

Parasect:
Parasect is a great pokemon in the rain. Parasect has amazing cleric options a sub par typing and a great ability in dry skin. With rain going+leftovers you will recover a good amount of hp each turn. I enjoy using parasect in doubles more than in singles because it get's rage powder. You can also make use of it's ability more by pairing it up with a ludicolo and having it use surf to recover parasect's hp by 1/4.

Victreebel:
An amazing sun sweeper in both doubles and singles. With access to weatherball gigadrain and sludgebomb it almost has perfect neutral coverage. Growth under the sun boosts spatk and atk by 2 which helps this thing kill almost everything that it hits. Careful with how frail this pokemon is it won't be able to take a lot of hits.
You can also run a mixed set on it with good success too.

Exeggutor: While functioning well in trickroom it can also be used in a sun team. With sun active and the chlorophyll ability it has 110 base speed. It has a monstrous 125 special attack stat as well. It also has the harvest ability which could be useful for a stalling set.

Tangela: Tangela get's in this guide despite not being fully evolved because of how bulky eviolite tangela on the physical side. You will need to run leechseed and gigadrain as your recovery because you lose out on the item variety with eviolite. It also gets regenerator which heals tangela for 33% of it's hp when it switches out. It also has access to amnesia turning it's low special defense into something amazing.

Jumpluff:
Jumpluff is one of the fastest pokemon with chlorophyll. It has a good variety of support moves as well. Infiltrator can let it set up on pokemon such as klefki by using encore on it. Cotton guard and amnesia are available to allow jumpluff to become a super tank.

Sunflora:
Well this thing can't do much work outside of trickroom. I would pair it up with a exeggutor and a slower grass team so you can fully abuse it. You would also need sun to abuse solarpower.
Stats:hp 75 attack 75 defense 55 special attack 105 special defense 85 speed 30

Abilities: Solarpower,Chlorophyll,Early bird (HA)

Trickroom sun sweeper

251.png
Celebi: Celebi is very versatile and has perfectly balanced stats. It has a great movepool as well. It has access to calm mind both reflect and light screen for support.
There are a lot of sets that Celebi could use, as it's balanced stats don't hold it back from much. It's weaknesses are a bit much but that doesn't stop it from functioning well, You just need to have something paired with it that resists some of them. Natural cure helps it against status effects that would normally cripple it.

Stats: Hp 100 Attack 100 Defense 100 Special Attack 100 Special Defense 100 Speed 100
Weakness: Fire(x2), Ice(x2), Poision (x2), Flying(x2), Bug(x4), Ghost(x2), Dark(x2)
Resistances: Water(.5), Electric(.5), Grass(.5), Fighting(.5), Ground(.5), Psychic(.5)
Abilities: Natural Cure

Cleric

Item: Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
Moves: Heal bell, Recover, Giga drain/Psychic, Shadowball/Thunderwave/Psychic
EV's 252 hp 252 def or spdef 4 spatk
Nature: Calm or Bold
Notes: thunderwave can be fairly useful to support slower teams and heal bell is useful to clear status effects crippling your team. The attacking moves for the set are versatile, and can be changed to what your team currently needs but I do recommend at least one stab move.

Scarf Celebi
Item:
Choice Scarf
Ability: Natural Cure
Moves:Trick/U-turn, Leaf Storm,Psychic,Shadowball, Earth Power
EV's: 252 Special attack 252 Speed 4 hp
Nature: Timid
Notes: This set is useful for either locking a defensive pokemon into choice scarf, or revenge killing. Leaf storm is great for tons of damage, Psychic is another STAB move for coverage. U-turn can be useful for getting out of sticky situations, but trick can lock defensive pokemon into a supporting or boosting move, or into a move that doesn't hit very hard. Earth power can help against steel types and shadowball can be useful to kill ghost types. Be careful of shadow sneak or sucker punch when using this set.

Sceptile
254.png
254-m.png

Sceptile can be a very strong pokemon in general, It is very fast and has a good special attack stat, especially in mega when it gets 145 speed and special attack. Non mega sceptile is also viable and has a few sets as well. It is 4x weak to ice when it mega evolves, but also cancels out some of the normal grass type weaknesses such as fire, turning it into a neutral hit. The abilities are Growth, which is the natural ability for grass starters, and Unburden. I would focus on the unburden set but the only current gem in the game to use for this is normal and it doesn't work too well on sceptile.

Stats( normal sceptile): HP: 70 Attack: 85. Defense: 65 Special Attack: 105 Special Defense:85 Speed:120
Stats(Mega): HP 70 Attack: 110 Defense: 75 Special Attack: 145 Special Defense: 85 Speed: 145
Weakness(Normal Sceptile): Ice(x2) Fire(x2) Poision(x2) Flying(x2) Bug(x2)
Resistances(Normal Sceptile): Water(.5) Electric(.5) Ground(.5) Grass(.5)
Weakness( Mega Sceptile): Ice(x4) Poision(x2) Bug(x2) Flying(x2) Fairy(x2) Dragon(x2)
Resistances( Mega Sceptile): Water (.25) Electric(Immune) Grass(.25) Ground(.5)
Abilities: Overgrow, Unburden (HA) Lightning Rod(Mega Sceptile)

Unburden Sceptile
Item:
White herb
Ability: Unburden
Moves: Leaf storm, Giga drain, Hidden power ice/Dragon Pulse, Focus Blast
EV's: 252 Special attack, 252 Speed 4 hp
Nature: Timid
Notes: This set relies on a use of leaf storm so you can use up white herb and activate unburden. After an unburden Sceptile hits a blazing base speed of 240 and a level 50 sceptile with a timid nature hits 378 speed. The rest of the set is simply used for coverage and giga drain is a good STAB move to use. You can either choose Hidden Power Ice or Dragon pulse, both are super effective to dragons but it is much easier to get dragon pulse.

Mega Sceptile
Item:
Sceptilite
Ability: Overgrow/Unburden (Will be lightning rod after evolution)
Moves: Leaf Storm/Giga drain, Focus Blast, Dragon Pulse, Protect
EV's: 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Nature: Timid
Notes: Mega Sceptile has high special attack and speed, so using a good coverage set and possibly tossing out a very strong leaf storm and then swapping out to other things after the stat drop. If you don't want to deal with the stat drop Giga drain is another option. Dragonpulse is a nice STAB move that deals with Dragon types. Focus blast is a nice coverage vs steel types. Overall it's a nice pokemon for Mono grass, or normal teams. It being neutral to fire helps a little too, although not much, as it is a frail pokemon regardless and it's role is to be a fast attacker. Lightning rod fits better on non mono teams but is still a nice ability regardless, providing a situational boost your special attack.

Ludicolo
272.png

Ludicolo is an amazing pokemon in general and has an awesome typing for mono grass team. All of it's abilities are rain based except own tempo but Rain dish and Swift Swim are very useful abilities. And Rain is very welcome weather for a grass team, as it helps make fire moves less powerful. You can either go special sweeper or special wall with this pokemon.
Stats: HP:80, Attack: 70, Defense: 70, Special Attack:90 , Special Defense: 100, Speed:70
Weakness: Poision(2x) Flying(2x) Bug(2x)
Resistances: Water(.25) Ground(.5) Steel(.5)
Abilities: Swift Swim, Rain Dish, Own Tempo(HA)

Special Wall
Item:
Leftovers/damp rock
Ability: Rain Dish
Moves: Scald, Ice beam/rain dance, Leech Seed, Giga Drain
EV's: 252 hp 252 Special defense 4 Special Attack
Nature: Calm
Notes: This set has a lot of recovery if you can get a rain dance off with either Ludicolo or another team mate. The goal of the set is to get as much recovery as possible and hopefully getting scald to burn and leech seed to start ticking away at the opponents health. You could choose either damp rock or leftovers for the item, dependent on if you want rain dance to last longer or if you want that little extra recovery with leftovers. Rain dance can be in place of any of the attacks on the set as it helps boost recovery for a set amount of turns.

Special Attacker
Item:
Life orb
Ability: Swift Swim
Moves: Hydropump/Surf, Ice Beam, Giga Drain, Focus Blast/Rain Dance
Ev's: 252 Special Attack 252 Speed 4 Special defense
Nature: Timid
Notes: This set is extremely good in the rain, like the previous set you could either set up rain with ludicolo or another team mate. Hydropump can be used if you prefer damage over accuracy, or you could use surf for it's 100% accuracy. Giga Drain serves as STAB and keeps Ludicolos health topped off, and heals off Life orb damage. Focus blast could be used in place of rain dance but you would then need to have another team member with the role of setting rain. Ice beam is the dragon and grass type check.

Shiftry
275.png

Shiftry is interesting as it can be a great attacker under the sun, or under a trick room/rain team. It's base speed of 80 needs to be boosted by chlorophyll to be scary in the singles metagame for the most part. It can be a scary mixed attacker under the sun, with growth. Or it can use nasty plot and a pure special set outside of the sun. Chlorophyll is the best ability for shiftry, other than that it has pickpocket and early bird.

Stats: HP: 90 Attack: 100 Defense: 60 Special Attack: 90 Special Defense: 60 Speed: 80
Weakness: Fire(x2) Ice(x2) Fighting(x2) Poision(x2) Flying(x2) Bug(4x) Fairy(x2)
Resistances: Water(.5) Grass(.5) Electric(.5) Ground(.5) Psychic(Immune) Ghost(.5) Dark(.5)
Abilities: Chlorophyll, Early Bird, Pickpocket(HA)

Mixed Attacker
Item:
Life orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
Moves: Growth, Leaf blade/Giga drain, Dark Pulse/Sucker punch/Knock off, Focus blast/low kick/extrasensory
EV's: 252 speed 140 attack 116 special attack
Nature: Rash or Naughty

Notes: This set has a lot of options for wall breaking potential Leaf blade hits harder but Giga drain can help recover from life orb damage. Dark pulse is a solid special dark option but for physical you could go for knock off for the utility of knocking off an item or sucker punch for priority. The last slot could either be focus blast, low kick for those heavy pokemon like tyranitar that are weak to fighting, or extrasensory for coverage vs poision types. Growth under the sun gives a 2x boost to both attack and special attack, so if you get the time to boost this pokemon can be a complete monster. Notable moves would be hurricane, but I prefer that under the rain for 100% accuracy. The nature for this set depends on the moveset, if you're more physically biased go for naughty, if you're more special biased go for rash.

Special attacker
Item:Life orb
Ability:
Chlorophyll
Moves: Nasty Plot, Giga drain, Dark Pulse, focus blast/extrasensory
EV's: 252 speed 252 Special attack 4 hp
Nature: Timid
Notes: This set relies on nasty plot and the speed boost from Chlorophyll to sweep teams, Focus blast and Extrasensory are interchangeable depending on teams needs. You get the same boost to special attack as the mixed set, but growth giving a 2x boost depends on the sun.

Physical attacker
Item:
Life orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
Moves: Swords Dance, Leaf Blade, Knock off/Night Slash/Sucker punch, Low Kick
EV's: 252 Attack 252 Speed 4 hp
Nature: Jolly
Notes: This set doesn't have as good coverage as the special set or mixed set but it does have the utility of knock off, and doesn't require the sun as much, although it is needed for the speed boost from Chlorophyll.

Breloom
286.png

Breloom is an extremely solid grass type, although it is countered by flying types. It has a little versatility in it's movesets, between stall and pure damage. Poision heal can be used to negate other status effects with your own toxic orb, then sustain off of leech seed/drain punch ect. Choice band can also be used which turns it into a physical powerhouse of a Pokemon. Poision heal is a wonderful ability on any pokemon. It heals more than leftovers and makes it so you're unable to be statused(if you protect and let your toxic orb work).Technician is a wonderful offensive ability, giving a 50% boost to moves with a base power of 60 or less. For breloom this works wonders with mach punch and bullet seed, both also benefiting from STAB for another 50% bonus. Effect spore I wouldn't really recommend on a Breloom set as the other abilities are more useful a lot of the time.

Stats: HP 60 , Attack 130, Defense 80, 60 Special attack, Special Defense 60 ,Speed 70
Weaknesses: Fire(x2) Flying (x4) Poision(x2) Ice(x2) Psychic(x2) Fairy(x2)

Abilities: Effect spore, Poison Heal, Technician(HA)

Ability: Poision Heal
Moves: Mach Punch, Swords dance, Seed Bomb, Facade/Leech Seed
EV's: 12 HP 252 Speed 244 Attack

Cacturne
332.png

Cacturne has the stats for being a good mixed attacker, but a speed of 55 keeps it from being terribly useful. I'm thinking of a sashed set for it with a boosting move of your choice between swords dance and nasty plot depending on what way you want to take it. It also has access to spiky shield but it's not too bulky to stall efficiently with it. It's still nice to have instead of protect, to get some chip damage onto the opponent. It's abilities are Water absorb and Sand veil. It can be effective under trickroom, possibly with a stalling set, but I will update my trickroom guide with another moveset for cacturne to save space in this guide.
Stats: HP 70, Attack 115, Defense 60, Special Attack 115, Special Defense 60, Speed 55
Weakness: Ice(x2) Fire(x2) Fighting(x2) Flying(x2) Fairy(x2) Bug(x4) Poision(x2)
Resistances Dark(.5) Electric(.5) Water(Immune if water absorb, .5 otherwise) Ground(.5) Psychic(Immune) Ghost(.5)
Abilities: Sand Veil, Water Absorb(HA)

Attacker
Item:

Ability: Water Absorb
Moves:Sucker Punch/Dark Pulse, Swords Dance/Nasty Plot,Seed Bomb/Giga Drain, Drain Punch/Focus Blast/Spiky Shield
EV's: 4 HP 252 Attack 252 HP(Physical set) 4 HP 252 Special attack 252 HP ( Special)
Nature: Modest/Adamant

Cradily
346.png

Ah one of my favorite pokemon on a mono grass team, It has a nice typing getting rid of the poision and fire weakness. It also sets up like a boss and can't be phased out by roar or dragon tail thanks to suction cup.I go for a straight forward stockpile set. I prefer suction cups over storm drain in singles, since you're setting up with this pokemon. I will make a storm drain set in a future sand team guide.
Stats:HP 86, Attack 81, Defense 97, Special Attack 81, Special Defense 107, Speed 43
Weakness: Ice(x2) Steel(x2) Fight(x2) Bug(x2)
Resistances: Electric(.5) Normal(.5)
Abilities: Suction Cup, Storm Drain (HA)

Stockpile
Item:
Leftovers
Ability:Suction Cups
Moves: Giga Drain, Stockpile, Earth Power/Infestation, Recover
EV's: 252 HP, 252 Special Defense, 8 Special Attack
Nature:Calm

Tropius
357.png

I do enjoy Tropius, but the 4x ice weakness makes it hard to use on mono grass. As these sets aren't limited to mono grass. I'm still going to say that I do like Harvest a lot on tropius. And under the sun it has a lot of sustain. I don't like Solar power on this pokemon as much, as it's more suited as a wall. This set does not fully require the sun, but it helps boost harvest to 100% chance.
Stats:HP 99, Attack 68, Defense 83, Special Attack 72, Special Attack 87, Speed 51
Weakness: Fire(x2) Ice(x4) Poision(x2) Flying(x2) Rock(x2)
Resistances:Water(.5) Grass(.25) Fight(.5) Ground(Immune)
Abilities: Chlorophyll, Solar Power, Harvest(HA)

Item:

Ability: Harvest
Moves: Protect, Leech Seed, Giga Drain, Air Slash
EV's: 252 Special Defense, 252 HP, 4 Special attack

Torterra
389.png

Torterra is a good user of stockpile despite it's 4x ice weakness. It has overgrow like the other grass starters, but if you can get Shell Armor I prefer that, as it prevents pokemon from critting through your boosts. It can run Amnesia and Curse as well if you want. If you're wanting this pokemon to sweep rock polish is your best bet.
Stats: HP 95, Attack 109, 105 Defense, 75 Special Attack, 85 Special Defense, Speed 56
Weakness: Ice(x4) Fire(x2) Flying(x2)
Resistances: Electric(Immune) Ground(.5) Rock(.5)

Nature: Shell Armor/Overgrow

Rock polish attacker
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Overgrow/Shell Armor
Moves: Rock Polish,Synthesis, EarthQuake, SeedBomb
EV's: 252 Speed, 252 Attack, 4 HP
Nature: Adamant/Jolly

Roserade
407.png

Roserade is a nice special attacker at 125 special attack and 90 speed. It also has access to natural cure, so it can get rid of status on switch out, or you could go with technician for the boost on magical leaf, but it doesn't benefit much else. Poison point isn't the best for this pokemon as it is better as an attacker and is frail on the physical side. If you were to use this as a special wall you would still want Natural Cure.
HP 60, Attack 70, Defense 65, Special Attack 125, Special Defense 105, Speed 90
Weakness: Fire(x2) Ice(x2) Flying(x2) Psychic(x2)
Resistances: Electric(.5) Water(.5) Grass(.25) Fighting(.5) Fairy(.5)
Abilities:Natural Cure, Poision Point, Technician (HA)

Special attacker
Item: Life orb/Choice scarf

Moves: Giga drain/Petal dance, Sludge Bomb, Dazzling gleam/Extrasensory, Hidden power fire/hidden power ice.
EV's: 252 Speed, 252 Special attack, 4 hp
Nature: Timid

Wormadam(Grassy cloak)
413.png

Wormadam grassy cloak is interesting, it has a few nasty weaknesses that keep us from using it on mono grass teams though, such as fire and flying. The ability I like the most on this pokemon is overcoat, as it prevents damage from sandstorm, and prevents powder moves from hitting you. Anticipation isn't really good for the set I am running on Wormadam. It is best suited as a special wall, against certain types like electric and grass.
Stats: HP 60, Attack 59, Defense 85, Special Attack 79, Special Defense 105, Speed 36

Special Wall
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
Moves: Gigadrain/Infestation, Toxic, Synthesis, Protect
EV's: 252 hp, 252 Special Defense, 4 Special Attack
Nature: Calm

Cherrim
421.png
110px-421Cherrim-Sunny.png

Cherrim is more usable in doubles but can be a fairly good support in singles. It has access to healing wish , aromatherapy and recovery options with Gigadrain and Synthesis. It won't get a lot out of it's ability outside of sun teams, so plan your use of this pokemon wisely. The ability Flower Gift raises the Attack and Special Defense of Cherrim and it's ally in a double battle by 50%.
Stats: HP 70, Attack 60, Defense 70, Special Attack 87, Special Defense 78, Speed 85
Weakness: Ice (x2) Fire(x2) Poison(x2) Flying(x2) Bug(x2)
Resistances: Ground(.5) Grass(.5) Water(.5) Electric (.5)
Abilities: Flower Gift

EV's:252 Special Defense, 252 HP, 4 Special Attack
Nature:Calm

Carnivine
455.png

Carnivine is interesting as it has levitate and a strong attack stat. It is best suited as a bulky attacker that can be mixed if needed. I like this under trick room mostly and have it included in my trick room guide. A singles set would be a bulky carnivine set. It's not the best user of stockpile but it works for it.
Stats:HP 74, Attack 100, Defense 72, Special Attack 90, Special Defense 72, Speed 46
Weakness: Ice(x2) Bug(x2) Flying(x2) Poison(x2) Fire(x2)

Abomasnow

Abomasnow is another possible mega slot for mono grass teams, but I prefer to use it in doubles on a trick room team. It does get monstrous offensive stats when it mega evolves but it is very slow.It has 6 weaknesses one of them are a 4x weakness to fire. It isn't the best pokemon to have on a mono grass team but with proper support it would possibly work.It has snow warning as well which you need to be careful of, since other grass types don't benefit from it at all. More suited for trick room, and it is featured in that guide. I'll show a good, singles set in this guide.

Stats: HP 90, Attack 132, Defense 105 , Special Attack 132, Special Defense 105 Speed 30
Weakness: Fire(x4) Flying (x2) Poison(x2) Fighting (x2) Bug (x2) Rock(x2)Steel(x2)

Tangrowth

One of my favorite grass types, it is a wonderful physical wall with nice recovery options, mixed offensive stats so you have variety in your movepool. I prefer special attacking sets due to giga drain, but physical sets have knock off which offers wonderful utility. Regenerator is a great ability on this pokemon, I prefer it over chlorophyl in singles due to it being better suited as a physical wall.

Stats: Hp 100, Attack 100, Defense 125, Special Attack 110, Special Defense 50, Speed 50Weakness: Flying(x2) Fire(x2) Ice(x2) Bug(x2) Poison(x2)

Leafeon

Decent speed tier allows it to abuse chlorophyll on sun teams. Leaf Guard can be used on defensive wall sets, but unfortunately both of these abilities require sunny day to be up. Swords dance sets can be scary under the sun boosting it's already good attack. Unfortunately it falls short on coverage though.

Stats:HP 65, Attack 110, Defense 130, Special Attack 60. Special Defense 65, Speed 95
Weakness: Flying(x2) Fire(x2) Ice(x2) Bug(x2) Poison(x2)

Rotom Mow

I personally love this on my mono grass team, as it has a neutrality to flying moves, as well as providing amazing bulk. I run a specially defensive Rotom-mow, to use it's nice resistances. It's only ability option is levitate, but it helps it in giving it an immunity. I highly recommend this in mono grass teams.

Shaymin

Shaymin's Land form can be used as a physical wall with it's balanced base stats of 100. Sky form can be an annoyance with serene grace and air slash. I used to use sky form shaymin on my old team, and I found it very effective. Land shaymin forms ability is natural cure which gets rid of bad status effects upon switching out.
Stats(land): Hp 100, Attack 100, Defense 100, Special attack, 100, Special defense 100, speed 100

A lot of grass types don't need sunny day :D. Just some are only viable because of it.
