Active Battle Clauses - What are they?

A clause is defined as a rule that is followed in a certain tier. In this thread, I will list all of the battle clauses, define them, and show you what tiers they apply to! For more information regarding the tiers, please see our Official Tier List.

Baton Pass Clause - You may only have one user of the move 'Baton Pass' on a team. Applies to: OU, UU, RU, NU, PU, NFE, LC

Chicken Clause - Speed Boost Blaziken is banned to Ubers, but Blaze Blaziken may be used. Applies to: OU, UU

Drizzle Clause - The ability 'Drizzle' is not permitted on any Pokemon. Applies to: UU, RU, NU, PU

Drought Clause - The ability 'Drought' is not permitted on any Pokemon. Applies to: RU, NU, PU

Endless Battle Clause - Any strategy that forces a battle that has no ending is banned. Applies to: Ubers, OU, UU, RU, NU, PU, NFE, LC.

• A Pokémon may not carry Recycle and hold a Leppa Berry in conjunction with Heal Pulse and Milk Drink, Moonlight, Morning Sun, Recover, Roost, Slack Off, Soft-Boiled, or Wish.
• A Pokémon may not hold a Leppa Berry and carry Recycle and Pain Split on its moveset.
• A Pokémon may not hold a Leppa Berry and carry Recycle and Fling on its moveset.

Evasion Clause - Either player is not allowed the moves 'Double Team' or 'Minimize' on a Pokemon. Abilities or Moves that can boost the Evasion stat, but are either not guaranteed or only work in certain situations (e.g. Ancient Power, Contrary) are legal. Applies to: Ubers, OU, UU, RU, NU, PU, NFE, LC

Item Clause - Your team may not have two or more of the same item. If a Pokemon on your team is tricked an item that you have on another Pokemon, this is legal. Applies to: Ubers, OU, UU, RU, NU, PU, NFE, LC

Moody Clause - A Pokemon may not have the ability 'Moody.' Applies to: Ubers, OU, UU, RU, NU, PU, NFE, LC

OHKO Clause - A Pokemon may not possess a One-Hit-KO Move. This includes: Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill and Sheer Cold. Applies to: Ubers, OU, UU, RU, NU, PU, NFE, LC

Self-KO Moves - A Pokemon may not possess a move that instantly knocks out the Pokemon that is using it. This includes both Explosion and Self-Destruct. Applies to: LC

Shadow Tag Clause - A Pokemon is not permitted to have the ability 'Shadow Tag.' Applies to: UU, RU, NU, PU

Sleep Clause - You may not set more than one Pokemon on the opposing side to sleep at the same time. If the opponent is already asleep due to self-infliction, you may not set another Pokemon to sleep. However, if you set an opposing Pokemon to sleep and the opponent then inflicts sleep on another one of their own Pokemon, this is fine. Applies to: Ubers, OU, UU, RU, NU, PU, NFE, LC

• SIDE NOTE: If, in Doubles, the sleep status is triggered on one Pokemon (be it through the own player's Rest/opponent's Effect Spore), and the opponent also uses a sleep-inducing move on the other Pokemon, this is permitted as to prevent players from automatically losing matches due to RNG. However, this situation will never apply on Showdown matches due to Sleep Clause being actively enforced in the code.

Species Clause - You may not use two of the same Pokemon on one team. This is the same for alternate forms, so you can only have one form of that Pokemon on one team. Applies to: Ubers, OU, UU, RU, NU, PU, NFE, LC

Swagster Clause - A Pokemon may not possess the move 'Swagger' and have the ability 'Prankster.' Applies to: Ubers, OU, UU, RU, NU, PU, NFE, LC

These clauses are in effect for any official site battles. This includes Team Wars, Gym Challenges, Elite 4/Champion Matches and Biweekly Tournament Matches. We also suggest that you follow these clauses for any fun matches you do to maintain fair play. Thanks.​
