Sunny day guide

Sun teams are made to abuse the harsh sun status. The effects of the sun are: Water moves deal 50% less damage, Fire moves deal 50% more damage.

Sunny day setters

The pokemon in this section are possibly the most important pokemon in a sun team as they set it up. Drought users like ninetales or mega charizard y are staples on any sun team. Prankster pokemon such as whimsicott, klefki and a few others can set up sunny day easily as well.

006.png
006-my.png
Charizard y: Mega charizard y is an amazing pokemon. It summons instant sun which makes it a key player in a sun team. Being a powerhouse and having a very usable special defense is also great. Charizard's movepool lets it be useful in singles or doubles. Heatwave is boosted by stab and sun so it gets double damage(not including the damage reduction for spread attacks in doubles).

Weaknesses: Rock Water Electric
Abilities: Blaze,Solar power(HA),Drought(Mega charizard Y)

Ninetales: Ninetales was the only non uber drought carrier last generation. Ninetales is somewhat versatile being able to use either a specially defensive set or a special attacking set. Nasty plot could be devastating for the opponent if you get a chance to use it.

Klefki: Klefki is one annoying pokemon. It has prankster for free sun setup and get's a lot of suppport moves to help it's team. Calm mind and iron defense are used for those extra defenses and draining kiss is used for some recovery. Heat rock can be used for 8 turns of sun instead of the usual 5.

Meowstic(M):
Meowstic can be similar to klefki because it has barrier and calm mind for a double boosting set. It also has prankster so it can set up free sun. Having a support move pool consisting of yawn, thunderwave, swagger and fake out makes it hard to pick a moveset.

Whimsicott:
Whimsicott is an excellent team support with options such as taunt, encore and knockoff. Whimsicott can further support it's team with tailwind after it sets up sunny day. You could go the boosting option and run cotton guard for a priority +3 defense boost.

Sun Abusers

Sun abusers are another very important part of a sun team. They can range from chlorophyll users to fire types.

Lets start this off the chlorophyll users. Chlorophyll doubles the speed of the pokemon that has it when there is a harsh sun status. Sun also doubles the boosts gained from growth to make it a nastyplot and swords dance in one.

045.png
Vileplume:
Vileplume has a low speed of 50 but with chlorophyll it hits a nice 100 base speed tier. While this isn't the fastest chlorophyll user it has 110 special attack. It also has a good movepool ranging from gigadrain to dazzling gleam.
Stats: Hp 75Atk 80Def 85Spatk 110 Spdef 90Spd 50
Weakness: Flying Fire Ice Psychic
Abilities: Chlorophyll, Effect spore(HA)
Sun sweeper
Item: Life orb/Assault vest
Ability: Chlorophyll
Moves: Gigadrain, Dazzling gleam, HP fire, Sludge bomb

071.png
Victreebell:
This is a very scary threat under the sun. With amazing mixed attacking stats, a 140 speed under the sun and access to a great movepool this is one of my favorite chlorophyll users. Growth is devastating for the opponent if you can pull it off. It also has access to weatherball which turns into a 100 base power fire move that gets boosted by the sun turning it into a 150 power move. This gives it good coverage with leaf blade and sludgebomb. Victreebell can't do anything to heatran so you want to pair it up with something that can.

Stats: Hp 80Atk 105Def 65Spatk 100Spdef 70Speed 70
Weakness: Psychic Flying Fire Ice
Abilities: Chlorophyll, Gluttony(HA)
Mixed growth sweeper

Item:
Life orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
Moves: Growth,Leafblade/Gigadrain,Weatherball,Sludgebomb
EV's: 252 spatk 252 speed 6 atk
Nature:Naive

Exeggutor: Exeggutor has an amazing special attack stat of 125 and a speed stat of 110 with chlorophyll active. It has a good dual typing with good move options. With exeggutors good bulk you can run either a stall set or sweeper. It also gets harvest which has a 100% chance to recover your berry in the sun.
Stats: Hp 95Atk 95Def 85Spatk 125Spdef 65Spd 55
Weakness: Flying Ghost Dark Ice Fire Poison
Abilities: Chlorophyll, Harvest(HA)

Bellossom:
Bellossom has 100 speed under the sun which isn't the greatest but it gets the job done. You can run bellossom as a support/sweeper under the sun.
Stats: Hp 75Atk 80Def 95Spatk 90Spdef 100Spd 50
Weakness: Fire Ice Bug Poison Flying

Jumpluff:
Jumpluff is one of the fastest chlorophyll users in the game. Under the sun it has 220 base speed. It has a good support movepool and good boosting options in amnesia and cotton guard.
Weakness: ice fire rock flying poison

Item: Leftovers/mental herb

Shiftry:
This tengu is a good chlorophyll user and a good fakeout user in doubles. With access to growth and good mixed attacking stats it can be a very strong pokemon.
Weakness: Fighting bug fire poison fairy flying ice
Abilities: Chlorophyll, Early bird, Pickpocket(HA)

Tropius: Also known as bananasaur it can be run two different ways under the sun. A stall set utilizing harvest is usually the best way to go because of it's bad attacking stats.
Harvest under the sun gives it 100% chance to recover it's lost berry. This could be sitrus or lum depending on your set. It also gets solar power but it still won't do nearly enough damage to be worth it.
Stats: Hp 99Atk 68Def 83Spatk 72Spdef 87Speed 51
Abilities: Chlorophyll, Harvest(HA), Solar power
Weakness: ice fire rock flying poison
Bananasaur
Item:

Ability: Harvest
Moves: Protect/Rest, Leech seed, Gigadrain,HP fire
EV's: 252 hp 252 spdef 6 def

Tangrowth:
Although it is one of the slower users of chlorophyll it can still do plenty of work. It has a nice 100 base speed in the sun and can use sleep powder to disrupt the opponent. It also has a strong base special attack or 110. A growth set could easily be utilized because of tangrowths bulk and allows it to sweep reliably.
Stats: Hp 100 Atk 100 Def 125 Spatk 110 Spdef 50 Speed 50
Abilities: Chlorophyll, Leaf guard, Regenerator(HA)
Weakness: Fire Ice Poison Bug Flying
Growth sweeper

Cherrim: Cherrim is a very interesting pokemon because of it's ability. I reccomend cherrim in a doubles environment because flower gift boosts both cherrim's and the partner pokemon's attack and special defense by 50% while the sun is out and cherrim is on the field. It also gets growth to turn it into a devastating sweeper.
Abilities: Flower gift
Weakness: Fire Ice Flying Bug Poison

Leavanny: being one of my favorite designs of all time I am a little biased on this one. While it has a bad typing with 2 4x weakness and other common weakness It has a good attack stat and speed stat which can be boosted by chlorophyll. It doesn't have great coverage but if you like it you could still use it.
Abilities: Swarm, Chlorophyll, Overcoat(HA)
Weakness: Flying Fire Rock Ice Poison Bug
Stats: Hp 75Atk 103Def 80Spatk 70Spdef 80Speed 92

Sawsbuck:
Sawsbuck has a nice 95 speed and has a decent movepool to back it up. It gets chlorophyll to further boost this. The typing could be better as normal contributes nothing but a immunity to ghost and adds a fighting weakness. Although it does get stab on return from it as well.
Weakness: Fighting Flying Ice Fire Bug Poison
Abilities: Chlorophyll, Sap sipper, Serene Grace(HA)
Stats: Hp 80Atk 100Def 70Spatk 60Spdef 70Speed 95

Maractus: I like maractus on a sun team because it gets storm drain. When you pair this up with something like rhyperior or any fire type you can essentially get rid of the water weakness(assuming they don't use surf). It also has chlorophyll which brings it's speed up to a solid 120. It has a barren movepool just like the deserts it inhabits so there isn't much diversity here.
Weakness: Fire Ice Bug Poison Flying
Abilities: Chlorophyll, Water absorb, Storm drain(HA)
Supporter
Item:
Leftovers/Sitrus berry
Ability: Chlorophyll/Storm drain
Moves: Grassy terrain, Giga drain, HP Fire,Cotton spore

Venusaur
: Venusaur is an amazing pokemon this generation as it has recieved a mega evolution. This takes away it's chlorophyll ability but gives it the thick fat ability effectively getting rid of it's fire and ice weaknesses. It is also a very versatile pokemon with plenty of set options. Regular venusaur is amazing in the sun because of it's chlorophyll ability. Venusaurs typing gets rid of the bug weakness that grass types usually have as well. Venusaur can also use grassy terrain for more recovery and some extra damage on it's grass attacks.
Weakness: Fire Ice Flying Psychic
Stats(regular):80 HP 82 Attack 83 Defense 100 Special attack 100 Special Defense 80 Speed

Moves:Sleep powder,Synthesis,Gigadrain, Sludge bomb
EV's: 252 spatk 252 speed 6 hp

Leafeon: Leafeon has poor coverage but an amazing design. It has a high base speed with a good attack stat though. You could run a swords dancing set or an all out attacking set.
Weakness: Fire Ice Flying Bug Poison
Abilities: Leaf Guard, Chlorophyll(HA)
Stats: Hp 65Atk 110Def 130Spatk 60Spdef 65Speed 95

Item:

Ability: Chlorophyll
Moves: X-Scissor, Leaf Blade, Return, Knock off

Nature: Jolly

That's my sun guide for now but I will be updating it in the near future with non grass and fire pokemon that work well on sun teams. Special thanks to @Wolfrensong who commissioned the guide.

Could you make a guide for a rain dance team as well? I have been wanting to try it out
