Completing National Dex

I got Alpha Sapphire this year, and it has been my second Pokemon game since Platinum. I've gotten a lot more knowledgable about Pokemon since Gen 4, and I want AS to be the first game that I complete the national dex in. The problem is, I don't know exactly how to do this. Any tips?

Background Information: About 160 caught, about 250 seen; only have AS and Platinum

Thanks!

GTS is how I got most of mine, I spent hours on that while I was completing my national dex.

I wouldn't worry about completing the dex till after you complete the game. However, I'd try completing the Hoenn Dex and catching every Pokemon you can in ORAS. Then from there, feel free to trade around on Wonder trade, and if you're struggling to find a specific Pokemon, you'll have no trouble posting a request thread for it on this site :D

I aggree, going step by step makes it less of a monstrous task. You got nearly half down by completing the Hoenn Dex! Another few tips would be catching the legendaries first, since they can be a pain in the *** and you got them out of the way. Afterwards, go for Pokémon that can be a bit troublesome. Do the Eevee evolutions for example. I just like doing this in splits, because just going down the list in the Pokédex one after the other makes it a bit dull after a while.

Yup, trading will make it very easy on GTS. Just search what you need.

That's not true in my opinion. People on GTS are stupid! I didn't get a Plusle and wanted one, and people were like "Cool, I got a Plusle, how about a Shiny Reshiram Level 110 6IV EV trained?" No, seriously, look it up, the stuff people want for normal Pokémon is crazy. -.-

I made a list with every pokemon you are able to catch for yourself, which make up 80% of the national dex...
this also includes fighting in the battle resort to get Dusknoir and similar evolutions...
then you'll be able to trade with friends and GTS ;)

I agree with the comments and want to add that I found the GTS works better if you post the trade for yourself. I put in even trades and got a trade within a day (durant for heatmor, torchic for piplup, etc.). Most of the reasonable trades are taken quickly, so post your own. Like Beck said, then breed and level up to get a the evolutions (some of which can be used to trade for others). That helped me out when I went through Omega Ruby as the only game I owned (it took a while, though). I have mine complete now, though, so feel free to message me if you need any help.
