It really depends on your requirements. If you don't mind the smaller screen or mono speaker, don't care about 3D and have a limited budget then go for the 2DS; otherwise go for the 3DS.

Aww I paid for my own it's expensive even pre owned mate, but some stores are about 110-150$ used if lucky.

I got a 3ds xl for christmas, but before that I had been planning of buying a 2ds because it was cheaper so yeah

2DS has a small screen, the buttons feel tacky, it only has one speaker, and it's annoyingly bulky so wont fit in your pocket easily.

Go for a 3DS XL, I upgraded from a 3DS a while ago and it was so worth it. The buttons have a nice feel, the casing doesn't creak when holding it like the old model, its more difficult to get carpal tunnel from the 3DS XL because it's bigger, it has better battery life... the list goes on. xD
