What's up guys this is a quick tutorial of the mechanics to Pokemon X and Y competitively battling. Enjoy.

There's a few new goodies in 6Th gen mechanics that can help you learn the game better.

Status: Status affects a pokemons ability to battle, in fact there are 6 status conditions in total they are:
Poison
Confusion
Paralysis
Sleep
Freeze
Burn
In the next lines I will explain what each status does and how it effects your pokemon

Poison: The poison condition causes a Pokémon to lose 1/8 of its maximum hit points every turn. Ex: One layer of toxic spikes

Badly poisoned: The poison condition causes a Pokemon to lose 1/16 of it's maximum health every turn. Ex: 2 Laters of toxic spikes, Toxic, Poison Fang.

Typings such as Steel and Poison cannot be poisoned, and pokemon with ability immunity cannot be poisoned.

Pokemon with the ability Overcoat cannot be poisoned by poison powder.

Pokemon with Magic Guard will not be affected

Burn: The burn condition halves the damage dealt of a physical attack of a pokemon except for Pokemon with the ability Guts which raises a pokemons Attack by 50% and at the end of each turn the burned pokemon loses 1/8 of it's maximum health.

Fire types and Pokemon with the ability Water Veil cannot be burned.

Pokemon with Magic Guard will not be affected


Freeze: The freeze condition causes a Pokémon to be unable to make a move. Damaging Fire-type moves used on a frozen Pokémon will remove the freeze status. Ex: Flamethrower, Scald also unthaws you.

Ice-type Pokémon cannot be frozen by Ice-type moves; however, they can be frozen by Tri Attack and Secret Power.


Sleep: A Pokémon that is asleep is immobilized and can only use the moves Snore and Sleep Talk.
Sleep lasts for a randomly chosen duration of 1 to 3 turns. A Pokémon can inflict self-induced sleep using the move Rest, which will restore all of the Pokémon's health and remove any other non-volatile status condition. Rest lasts for 2 turns in 6th gen.

Grass types cannot be but to sleep by moves like Spore and Sleep powder, but can be put to sleep by moves such as sing.

Pokemon with the ability insomnia cannot be put to sleep.

Pokemon with the ability overcoat cannot be put to sleep by powder or spore moves.

Paralysis: The paralysis condition causes a Pokémon to be unable to attack ("fully paralyzed") a quarter of the time. Additionally, its Speed is reduced to 25% of its previous value (except for Pokémon with the Quick Feet Ability, where this condition raises the Speed by 50%).

Ground types cannot be paralyzed be electric moves.

As of Generation 6 Electric-type Pokémon can no longer be paralyzed.

Pokemon With Magic Guard will no be affected.

Confusion: The confused condition causes a Pokémon to hurt itself in its confusion 50% of the time. The damage is done as if the Pokémon attacked itself with a 40-power typeless physical attack.

Confusion lasts up to 1-4 turns
With a 50% chance of you be unable to attack. Upon Switchout the confusion is healed.

Pokemon With the ability own tempo cannot be confused

Looks good so far but, When badly poisoned you wrote that you lose 1/16th of your max health every turn and did not mention the increase in damage per turn, You mis-spelled layers next to the toxic spikes thing :p

Also I would recommend elaborating, adding a few more tips and moving this over to the Guides section if you want

Lol I had a descriptive one before this but it got deleted and I was soooooooooo upset that I had to rewrite it lol.
