you need to beat E4 to unlock the third pokemon

In order to unlock the third pokemon, you both must be online at the same time ONLY ONCE. He beat the E4 but you haven't been online at the same time so it hasn't unlocked.

My safari is bug but I don't know what's in it. Hopefully a heracross, otherwise it's pretty useless
