"Then just kill me and make a replica." -- Tear 'Mystearica' Grants
Prepare for the second largest dungeon in the entire game, and probably my
most hated one. So, proceed N to trigger a scene. Afterwards, go inside and
proceed further inside to trigger another scene. Once it's over, check the
central score in middle of the room. Remember the previous Sephiroths? We need
to bring a blue, red and yellow fonons. You'll also notice that there are 4
available paths in this room (without counting the path we used to get in
here).
Follow the NW path to find some blue fonons at the end. Grab them and return
to the score. Now take the SE path and get the yellow fonons at the end, same
here, return to the score. Finally take the NE path and grab the red fonons at
the end. Return to the score and put the fonons in the right order to make a
lift appear where the score is.
Once at the bottom of the lift, an earthquake occurs. Big deal. Follow the
path and enter the huge white gate you encounter. Now go, N, E, S down the ramp
and keep going S until you see another gate on your right. Take it. At the fork
outside, follow it downwards to find a chest with 'Tartan Ribbon' just before
the flame wall. Now follow the path upwards and enter the white gate when you
come to it.
Follow the path NW and at the end go S down the ramp, then go E, S at the
fork, down the ramp and W at the next fork. Before entering the gate, get
'Pineapple Gel' from the chest NW of the gate itself.
Once outside the gate, take the upper path and enter the white gate at the end
of the path (ignore the first gate). His one should be easy, so head to the
bottom to find a fish-like enemy with red fire in it. When you kill it, a the
red fire walls will disappear. Nice... so return from whence you came and at
the fork, go W and open the chest containing 'Red Basil'. Now enter the white
gate we skipped before.
Go S in here, then down the ramp, then follow the path N and down the ramp, go
E and open the chest to find 'Mythril Cloak', then go S to find another chest
containing 'Ancient Ribbon'. Return to the previous chest and go N to find the
exit. Use the lift at the end of the path.
Down here, make sure you use the healing save point. Move S a bit to trigger a
scene where the party splits. You'll now be in control of Luke and Tear. There
are three teams now: Luke and Tear, Guy and Natalia; and Jade and Anise. So
let's start with Luke. Follow the SW path, lit the first "key hole" and proceed
further down, but just a bit to see another "key hole" N of you. BE SURE TO HIT
IT! You'll see another one along the way, so lit that one up as well. When you
reach a fork, go E for 'Mighty Saber' and continue until you reach the bottom.
Once down here, hit the yellow orb under the fork to make the purple gate
disappear. Proceed and use the warp to go down. At the second fork, go W and
lit the "key hole"; and go E and hit the yellow orb under the fork to make a
purple gate disappear. Use the warp down and examine the white glyph on the
floor to change to Guy's team.
Start following the path and enter the white gate. This is way too easy for me
to explain, so just get 'Treat' and at the bottom, watch the scene and save
your game. Now go through the white portal and follow the path until you reach
a fork, which you should take W for a 'Grass Chamber'. Return to the fork and
go S to reach a white portal... enter it.
In here, follow the S warp path to find 'War Hammer'. Now go down once again
and exit this area. Kill the enemy walking around here to have turn into a
block. You'll also see two gaps, one on the left and one on the upper right.
There are also two openings per gap, so push it down the left opening of the
left gap. Now step on the white glyph and change to Jade's team.
From where you appear, go E to find 'Rare Protector', now go W and enter the
white gate. Simply follow the warp path, get 'Carmine Chamber', go S and save
your game. Now exit through the portal.
Follow the path (ignore the white gate for now) and at the fork, go W and kill
the enemy there to have it turn into a block. Now push down on the left side of
the seesaw. Return to the previous fork and go S this time to find yet another
fork. Follow it S to find a chest with 'Pineapple Gel'. Return to the fork and
enter the white gate E of you.
From here, follow the S warp path for 'Strike Eagle'. Return to the entrance
and take the N warp path. Down here, use the first warp you come across to find
'Special Gel'. Return down the warp and use the S most warp and follow the warp
paths until you reach the bottom.
Once outside, get '20,000 Gald' from the chest in front of you. Keep following
the path W to find 'Rare Bracelet'. Return and push the block Guy dropped over
the gap to the W. Now use the white glyph and change to Luke's team. Go N, the
E going up the seesaw and hit the fork to make another purple gate disappear.
Return to the middle point of the seesaw to trigger a little scene. Now go to
where the block is and break it using Mieu Attack. Return to the white glyph,
but go up the warp, go to the second fork is (where the seesaw is), and follow
it E to find '12,000 Gald'. Return down the warp and now use the white glyph
and change to Guy's team.
Kill another golem enemy and now push it over the gap to the upper right and
return to Luke's team. Go N to the seesaw, go W from here and hit the fork at
the end. Now switch to Guy's team and follow the path until you switch
automatically to Jade's team. Follow the W path until you arrive to where guy's
team is. Both teams have joined, so run through the save point and kill the
enemy there so Luke can enter (this eliminates the blue fire walls). Now with
Luke, just run N to rejoin the team.
After all the lines, regroup, save your game and warp down. Watch the scenes
and prepare for the third best fight so far...

BOSS: VAN
---------
- Name: Van
- Location: Absorption Gate
- HP: 132,000 / 198,000
- XP: 15,000
- P.ATK: 682 / 1023
- P.DEF: 700 / 1050
- F.ATK: 386 / 579
- F.DEF: 561 / 841
- Gald: 30,000
- Items dropped: Force Ring
- Steal: None
- Elemental Info.:
- Weak: None
- Strong: None
- Strategy: Ok, the third best fight in the game. Make sure you bring Jade and
Tear in this fight, as we'll be needing healing like never before and Jade's
magic every second. Since Van was Luke's sensei, he has a lot of Luke's
attacks. Base artes, like Raging Blast; Arcane artes like Lightning Tiger
Blade, Guardian Frost, Shining Blade and Radiant Dragon. He also has high level
Fonic Artes, like Jade's Ground Dasher and Infernal Prison. He also has his
damn Mystic Arte, Imperial Slaughter, which will kill anyone who receives the
attack, even with high HP.
Put everyone's TP usage to 100%, and make them use the Overlimit whenever they
can. Also, disable all of Tear's artes, except for Healing Circle, Revitalize
and Resurrection; as for Jade, disable all of his artes except for Ground
Dasher, Blessed Drops, Infernal Prison and Thunder Blade. And for Guy, if
you're bringing him (I really recommend you bring him), don't disable anything.
When Van reaches 75,000 HP, he'll start using Arcane artes like if there would
be no tomorrow. He'll also going in Overlimit and start using his Imperial
Slaughter at the end of the Overlimit. When he goes in Overlimit, open the menu
(/\ button) and press L1 until the "On your guard!" strategy appears. This will
make your character to get out of Van's way, so make him follow you and only
you, and try to escape his Mystic arte, because it'll kill you.
Have Jade use his artes during all the battle and Tear using Revitalize and
Healing Circle. If anyone dies, try reviving him/her with a Life Bottle, so
Tear doesn't spend her TP. This is one of the toughest battles in the game, you
may have to reset a couple times, but it's a while since I wanted to kick Van's
ass.

After the fight, watch a scene, and an animated cutscene. And see you back at
home.
