I only have Gen4 games. x3 I'm assuming I'll have to use PS if I want to battle anyone here!

Didn't Nintendo disconnect the WFC for the older Pokémon games? So you would be able to battle people online with a forth generation game anymore...

I think showdown might still have the option to battle like in the older games, you could recreate your team on showdown and battle that way?

Waaait I confuzzled! Is ORAS the newest or is XY? And when is the new one coming out--do we know? I really don't think I'll like the new ones but... if I do want to play with others, I guess I'd have to upgrade... :< Is it possible for me to trade my Gen4 Pokemon all the way up? I know I'd have to buy all the games inbetween... x3;

I think you're right. D: Although tbh I'm not certain how all of that used to work. I did hear I couldn't get a Pokewalker anymore even if I found one because it wouldn't work for some reason. I guess that was hooked up to that, too??

If I CAN trade up all the way from Gen4 to Gen6 I'll get all the games between. I don't Gen Pokemon I like taking the time to breed them and I have a whole bunch on Gen4. And I get attached to fake pixels I spent way too much time obtaining. xD; I do like the idea of being able to get differnt pokeballs for eggs, though... So if I find out I can do that, I'll totally buy the games from someone if they're sellin' 'em for a bit cheaper! :>

ORAS (Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire) which are 3D remakes of the Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire GBA games are the newest Pokemon games. If you where going to buy a 6th gen game just to battle and trade you should get one of those because they let you use the new mega stones while XY doesn't...

Pokebank (which is a $5 annual 3DS app) lets you transfer Pokemon from Black/White & Black2/White2 into XY & ORAS along with being a system of 100 extra boxes to store your Pokemon.

As for the WFC being closed down it was the server for the older DS (DS Light, DSi) & 2D games. I assume something like this happened: The company felt it was obsolete since the 3DS came out and uses a different server and the old server cost them money to keep it running so they closed it. All internet features in the older games connected to that server (the poke ball device etc) and no longer work because they cannot connect to the internet server they work with (it gone.)

Makes complete sense! Thanks for all the info! I wonder if I should just wait until Gen7 or if I should buy OR on Black Friday... I'm worried Pokebank wouldn't work on Gen7 tho :<

People were worried that Pokebank wouldn't work once ORAS came out but it's making them money and they don't have to do anything with it (it's already created and blocks hacked Pokemon, other than the odd update every now and then they don't have to do any major work to maintain it) so the chances of them discontinuing the feature is unlikely.

I wouldn't buy it though if you'd like to wait for the next Pokemon game (which isn't a bad idea since you can't do much with the current games anymore) and pokebank expires after a year and you have to renew it to continue using it. With all the new information about Zygardes new forms it's likely that Pokemon Z will be the next game to come out, and hopefully soon!
