Active Question about Destiny Knot?

So I got a Destiny Knot and gave it to my 6IV Ditto and breeded it with a lucario, hoping to get a 5IV Riolu but instead I got a 3IV and 2IV? I thought that 5IVs get passed down to the baby pokemon?

The Destiny Knot will allow you inherit 5 IV's from the parents, so you must also have a perfect Lucario as well as a perfect Ditto to increase your chances of have 5 Perfect Ivs to pass down. otherwise it will increase the chance of taking the imperfect stats of the imperfect parent.

but doesn't it only take the iv's from the pokemon holding the destiny knot?

No, it takes 5 ivs total between both parents
