Kabutops, the scythe-fossil Pokemon. The evolved form of Kabuto, many see it as a family of the horshoe crab family, but others claim it eventually evolved into another scythe-family branch of pokes.

Similar with its appearance to sauropods (dinosaurs on fours), it also got its appearance from a pear, or a belgian endive, a type of chicory.

Chikorita's name origin comes from two words: chicory (a flowering plant) and ita (the Spanish end-word suffix for females or something small and young).

combination of quill (needle-like hair) and lava (molten rock).
funnily, it shares the same species name as Entei (and Typhlosion too), that being the "Volcano Pokémon.

#159 Croconaw, the Big Jaw Pokémon.
upload_2014-10-20_1-26-32.png

Croconaw is based on a crocodilian. Also, the head spikes and the pattern on the chest seem to be based on the wild hair and animal-skin cloth worn by cavemen. Croconaw is a combination of crocodile and gnaw, though it may also involve maw or jaw. Alligates is derived from alligator.
