Active Following Smogon Tiering (READ FOR DETAILS ABOUT THE CHANGE AND WHEN IT WILL BE IMPLEMENTED)

The council talked about this a bit and there was no real opposition to this, but noone ever got around to posting it after Matt asked one more time and received no opposition and it's been 18 days since then.

What is happening?
Until the first official Perfect Pokémon Sun/Moon tier list is created, all official Perfect Pokémon tournaments, gyms and ladders will follow the official Smogon banlist. This is the ruleset that is followed on Smogon's official simulator (Pokémon Showdown!), and the specifics of every tier can be viewed using the links below as well as the tier lists being viewable in Pokémon Showdown!'s teambuilder.

Anything Goes, Uber, OU, BL, UU, BL2, RU, BL3, NU, BL4, PU, Doubles Uber, Doubles OU, Doubles UU
The following metagames are not playable: BL, BL2, BL3, BL4

I'd write you a changelog but that'd probably take me an hour and I've not got the time/patience for that so just try and learn where everything sits.

Please note that NFE is excluded from this change, and the metagame will become a separate entity with it's own banlist (when something is banned from NFE, instead of going to PU they will now go to NFE Ubers--which will create a new format in which all NFEs are legal for use--and the tier will be broken from the main sequence of tiers).

When is it happening?
For official tournaments, this will be implemented after King of the Ring III has finished (please take note of this @AceBreeder-Brock) and will continue to be the case until the first official tier list is implemented.

For the wifi battle ladder, this will take effect immediately. I will personally update any links in the current season thread (once I've found it, that is), but @doulie for any future rounds of the PP ladder can you please use the links above. Edit: I couldn't find it if there are any so could you deal with this Doulie 'cause you know where all this stuff is. Thanks.

For gyms, this will take effect immediately.

Why is this thread open?
I have left this thread open so that any queries about the change can be resolved in the thread. That said, we do not plan on reversing this change. Any posts saying that the change should be reversed or anything along similar lines (I will leave this to moderator discretion) will be deleted and the user who posted said message will receive a 1 point infraction because we do not want to have to deal with people being rebellious in this thread.

I did that because I don't want confusion for people who have already signed up/built for the tour.

Good call, with a tourney announced for so long I expect people who signed up already catered their teams to what was told to them to follow by the tourney post.

So to clarify this point, for people unfamiliar with Smogon tiering. The boarderline tiers are not playable tiers on their own, but the Pokémon in these tiers are still useable in the metagame. The first BL tier lacking usage in OU and above, but cannot be used in tiers below OU. Similarly, BL2 lacking usage in UU and above, but not below UU... The pattern continues for the rest of the BL tiers.

The boarderline tiers have always seemed pointless to me... Just put the Pokémon in OU / UU etc and drop them a tier if necessary.

Anyway, if it hasn't been done already, should the official PP tier list be hidden to prevent confusion?

I'll also edit the gym rules with this notice on temporarily using Smogon tiers until Sun&Moon if it hasn't been done.

Yeah I'll hide the thread. Honestly this forum could do with a cleanup anyway so I'm gonna ask Matt to go through the subforum with me to clean it up. I should prolly make a new NFE thread too due to the changes...

Anyway the BL tiers are just there so that there are no exceptions to the usage rule. Without them it stops being fully usage based, and ultimately the tiers are meant to act like a threatlist (you will see these Pokémon often) making them a good asset if it is based on usage.

In my honest opinion, I saw this coming a mile away. I think we should stick with Smogon's tier list even after Sun and Moon release to avoid scaring off any potential newcomers from the new games. From what I've seen, whenever somebody tries to make their own tier list, it eventually leans towards Smogon's tier list, to the point of being pointless. Since the Smogon Tier List is widely used, it would make more sense to use it.
